The Challenge
At a Danish dairy plant operated by Uhrenholt, the packaging process involved manually lifting heavy cheese rolls from large cardboard boxes. This method was slow, physically demanding, and often resulted in damaged packaging—making the boxes unusable for future use.
The inefficiencies were clear, and so were the risks to both employees and materials.
The Goals
Uhrenholt set out to improve the overall efficiency of their cheese-handling process. A key part of this was to reduce the physical strain placed on production staff by introducing a more ergonomic workflow.
In addition to optimising daily operations, the company also wanted to reduce packaging waste and increase the reusability of their existing materials—specifically the cardboard boxes used in the handling process.
The Logitrans Solution
To meet these needs, the Logitrans development team provided a standard Rotator fitted with customised box holders and dual clamps. These components were designed to stabilise and protect the boxes during lifting and rotation.
The Rotator was also equipped with a guide plate to ensure that the cheese rolls would exit the boxes smoothly and safely during the rotation process, minimising risk to both product and packaging.
The Results
With the new solution in place, Skodborg Mejeri—Uhrenholt’s dairy facility—now operates with a fully powered lift and rotate system. The process is no longer manual, meaning less physical strain for employees and far greater efficiency on the production line.
The cardboard boxes remain intact and reusable, reducing packaging waste and saving costs. The company has also achieved significant time savings, and the investment paid for itself in less than three years.
Most importantly, the working environment has improved noticeably, supporting a safer and more ergonomic daily routine for staff.
